Soccer And Basketball: The War Between The Two Of The Most Popular Sports

Soccer and Basketball are currently considered to be the two of the most popular sports among the world?s population. Although Basketball was created in the United States, and Soccer in Europe, the two have become increasingly popular in both countries.

Both sports require the athletes to be in shape and fit, but endurance might be more important among soccer players, while exquisite skill is the more important factor in basketball. Many of the major differences between soccer and basketball are being subdued, due to the fact that basketball is becoming more and more popular in Europe, and soccer in the United States.

In the United States, most of the sports television broadcasts on network TV are of sports other than soccer. You generally need to have cable to catch a glimpse of a professional soccer game, and even then only a portion of the games are broadcast, compared to a majority of games of other sports. In Europe, soccer is a favorite pastime, and most of the games are broadcast over other sporting events such as basketball.

However, the United States is becoming more involved in the soccer world since they introduced the World Cup, and maybe the gap between football and futbol is finally diminishing. It is still more likely than not that more American?s, if asked to name 10 professional basketball players, then 10 professional soccer players, would have a much easier time naming the basketball players.

The fact still remains that American?s simply do not consider soccer to one of the traditional, all-American sports that it does football, basketball, and baseball. Regardless of the fact that soccer has been around and played for many, many years, much like the sports that are considered to be favorite pastimes in the United States, it just hasn?t been played religiously in the United States for individuals to simply give up our sports that consist mainly of players throwing balls, to players kicking balls instead.

It?s projected that within a few more years, the exposure of soccer in the United States, as well basketball in Europe and other countries, will begin to gain to popularity and respect as a sport well played by athletes who train just as hard as any other professional athlete. The media can help to play a huge role in broadening the horizons of soccer by simply making broadcasts of games more readily available and easier to access, as well as on other channels rather than only cable.

The Importance of Juggling Training in Soccer

Juggling is one of the most important thing as a training element which is often mislooked. Juggling allows the players to use all parts of their body to gain a feel and control for the ball. These touches build confidence, skill and makes players aware of parts of their body used to control or pass the ball. With a larger range of comfort with the ball, imagination is often getting better in game play. A good juggler does not guarantee the player will be a good game player, as there is no substitute for match play. Juggling should become a daily routine that only takes a few minutes a day. Every coach should encourage and train their players to develop good juggling technique.

When juggling, coaches should stress the following points. Use all parts of the body (head, chest, thighs, and feet) and alternate feet. Don?t get caught only juggling with your dominant foot! Focus on good controlled touch to realize the full potential of juggling. If a player does not have good body control this will lead to bad touches. Be able to control the ball in different situations. So if a player has a bad touch, they should try to recover it rather than starting over. Be able to maintain good body position. Find rhythm and harmony between the player and the ball. Practice while standing still, then progress to walking slowly and then with some pressure by either time or opponents. Practice juggling about 20 minutes each day.

Soccer Trainers - Teaching Defensive Skills

Teaching the defensive skills to the players is not an easy thing to do for soccer trainers because players like the offensive ideas and practice. Learning the defensive skills and techniques may not be as fun and engaging for the players.

But, it is the duty of the coach to let the players be aware of the importance of the defensive techniques in a soccer game. The offensive techniques are good to attack, but until and unless you have good defensive skills, it is very unlikely that you will get the desired success in the game.

You may be good at shooting and scoring goals, but if you lack the defensive skills, you simply give the opponent team an easy opportunity to settle the accounts with you. Therefore, be smart.

  • Moving Quickly Within A Short Distance
  • This is perhaps the most important defensive technique. The coach must train their players to move quickly within a short distance ? to their left and right. In order to do this, the players need to push off rapidly on the alternate foot.

The players must be ready at all times and as soon as they get an opportunity, they need to be quick enough to steal the ball, take the position and turn the tide in their favor.

  • Keep Yourself Between The Ball And The Goal
  • When the ball is in the possession of an opponent player, you need to have an eye on the ball and the player with the possession of the ball. As an expert defender, it is very important for you to keep yourself between the ball and the goal as a strong wall. Remember, there are two tasks assigned to a defender ? first, to save the goal and second, to steal the ball or both simultaneously.

  • Tackling Techniques
  • Tackling techniques are also an impotent component to acquire the desired defensive skills. In this regard, the players must keep in mind the following.

? If you are making an attempt to tackle the ball somewhere near the midfield, you must make sure that you are having a backup from a fellow player.

? Most importantly, players must go for the ball and not for the player. Keep your eyes on the ball. Look for an opportunity to steal the same, and as soon as you get it, you must be quick enough to turn the opportunity into the possession of the ball.

Soccer trainers have to teach the players lot many things and defensive techniques are just one of them.
